The Lighthouse Boys will sing at Selah Assembly of God Church. 109 S. First ST, tonight at 7 o’clock and Sunday during the 11 a.m. worship service. The Lighthouse Boys bring a breath of new life to southern gospel music. A free-will offering will be taken at the event. This will be the first time the Lighthouse Boys have performed in Washington state.

Well it’s time for another 5th Saturday Sing. My what a wonderful evening we had last time. If you weren’t there, then you missed out on some good fun and great Gospel singing. The Songfellows Quartet from Southern California will be our featured guests this time along with Lisa Whittenburg from Exeter, CA. I know a lot of you signed up on our mailing list so you would know about these concerts and you just haven’t been able to come. Let me encourage you to join us and together we’ll keep Southern Gospel Music alive and growing in the Southern San Joaquin Valley.
A special thanks to all those who have just signed up in the last few months. It’s our prayer that you will become as excited about what God is doing as we are. Thanks for joining us!
We just finished a wonderful revival with Bro. Allen Whittenburg in Exeter, CA. at Abundant Life. What a marvelous moving of the Spirit. There were many that received their healing and 8 gave their life over to Jesus. HALLELUJAH!!
God is so good and never ending but we’re out of space. May God bless and keep you till His return. We’ll be looking for you at the concert.

(Bakersfield, Calif.)—It seems when you start talking about groups in California, The Lighthouse Boys’ name always comes up. They have been called “a refreshing breath of new life” in Southern Gospel music. They are five men who are fired-up and dedicated to singing and traveling from one end to the other of a state that is 700 miles long.
Bill Underwood has a rich voice and unique guitar style that gives the group a firm foundation. He is also the preacher of the group. Mark Underwood is the songwriter and is constantly working to improve the sound of the group. He plays piano and sings first tenor. Ken Edwards is from Dry Prong, La., where his dad has a radio station. Ken sings, writes songs and plays bass guitar. He started singing when he was seven years old. Terry Mullin is the bass singer who has a contagious smile and is always into something. I don’t know why, but it seems everyone loves a bass singer. The quiet one of the group is Stephen Underwood, but you know he’s around when he sits down at his drums. He also plays many other instruments. Praise the Lord for a group like The Lighthouse Boys.

October has been an exciting month for the Lighthouse Boys. Plans have been set in motion for our next album to be recorded in early 1991 and everyone we meet is enthused at the news of the project.
We had a wonderful time at the Kern County Fair’s Gospel Music Day and would like to thank everybody for their attendance. It was good to see the Descendants on stage again and performing with their special brand of good ol’ Southern Gospel singing. A special thanks to Lois Gibbons and Ralph Dean for coming.
We would like to take a moment and introduce a couple of people that are launching a very important ministry here in Bakersfield, CA. Paula Waddel and Wayne Newlen have inaugurated a ministry called “Christian Musicians Fellowship,” a place where aspiring musicians and singers can come and share their talent. They also feature a well known Gospel group each month and are looking for more support from Gospel groups throughout the state. Remember these two and hold them in your prayers.
We were in fellowship with Paula and Wayne on October 20th and had a good time singing for the Lord.
At this writing we were on our way to the metropolis of Coalinga, CA to be in service with the folks at the Pentecostal Church of God on October 21st, and looking forward to a good time in the Lord’s service.
Exciting things are transpiring on every hand and Jesus Christ is coming soon for a people that are ready and looking for His return. The Lighthouse Boys are ready and looking and hope to see you there.

Gospel Day at the Kern County Fair features headliner Daryl Coley, St John Baptist Church Choir, Jerusalem Mission Choir, Truth Tabernacle Choir, The Bakersfield Community Choir, The Lighthouse Boys and many others during performances which begin at 12 noon on the Frontier Stage and continue throughout the day.

(Victorville, CA) – Mayor Terry Caldwell has proclaimed Memorial Day weekend as the “Weekend of Gospel Music.”
Caldwell presented the proclamation to Lois Gibbons, publisher of Gospel Music Roundup, at Tuesday’s city council meeting.
To celebrate Gospel Music Weekend, Ken Grudzinski of Golde Eagle Enterprises will sponsor High Desert Gospel Sing. The High Desert Gospel Sing will be held at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds on Memorial Day, May 25 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The event will feature James Blackwood of Memphis, the only living member of the original Blackwood Brothers.
Also on stage will be 30 of California’s top gospel performers, including Dick Hilleary and Everette Evans of Yorba Linda, CA; The Watchmen of Chino and the Regents of South Gate, both all -male quartettes; The (Original) Californias, who have rejoined after 10 years; and Direction, also back together after 10 years.
Country gospel music will be performed by Finley Duke – “Mr. Country Gospel” – of Houston; Rainbow Country, a trio from Colton; The Range Riders of Desert Hos Springs, a group of eight male and female singers; Chrystal Light, of Bloomington, a family of five; Division Heirs, of Tucson, Arizona; and soloist Dexter Logan, of Lancaster, who has been singing since the beginning of country gospel music.
Other performers include the Tradesmen, the Harrisons, The Edwards, Deboard, The Lighthouse Boys, Julie Wingfield, Tammi Teal, Envoy, Fitzpatrick and Company, Gospel Light, Ken Withington of Australia, Doris Wagnon, Horizon, June Wade and Esquire Band, Betty Smith, Levi, and other guests.
Tickets are $6 per adult, with Children under 12 and those with disabilities will be admitted free. A special $5 rate will be offer to seniors, and groups of eight may obtain tickets for $20.

A variety of gospel enterntainers will be performing at the Kern County Fair’s Gospel Day October 6.
Beginning at 3:30pm at the Outdoor Theater, the gospel show will feature such as the Good Shepherds, June Wade & The Country Congregation, The Lighthouse Boys, Kathryn McMillan and Friends, Ken and Tina Swift, new Life Singers and the Sonrise Band.
It will be a day full of gospelo entertainment for the enjoyment of all farigoers.

This Sunday, an all-star gospel music show takes place at the Veterans Hall of Norris Road, with the Alvis Barnett Family, Susan Raye, the Ray Sisters, Camp Meetin’, Lori Malone, and The Lighthouse Boys. It’s from 1 to 5pm. The show is free to the public, but donations will be accepted at the door for the proposed Bakersfield Country Music Museum.

(Upland, CA) – The Lighthouse Boys made an appearance at the 20th Annual Western States Quartet Convention in Upland, CA, The Lighthouse Boys were given the “Californians Choice Award for Best Gospel Band” for 1980. With the release of their first album earlier this year, The Lighthouse Boys enjoyed a pretty busy concert schedule up and down the west coast; including appearances at the Western Desert Gospel Sing at the San Bernardino Fair Grounds in Victorville, CA, Calico Ghost Town, Calico Silver Bowl and The Kern County Fair to name a few. Band member changes had once again taken place for the group, however the original three of the group; Mark Underwood, Steve Johnson and Bill Underwood, along with members Tim Cantu and Daythen Fernandez were there to perform during the Convention, and to receive the award.
The Western States Quartet Convention also featured performances from The Californians, June Wade and the Country Congregation, “Group of the Year” winner The Reflections along with several other artists..
