THE FIRST ANNUAL SOUTHERN GOSPEL JUBILEE

The First Annual Southern Gospel Jubilee.  Presented by Harvest Hour Productions, was held at the Mercedes Edward Theater in Clovis, California.  On August 26, 2000.  This premier gospel concert event was the first ever of its kind in the little historic town of Clovis and was the first class promotion.
Southern Gospel music was represented well, featuring such artists as The Branson Family, Dian Eason, The Herb Henry Family, John Lanier and The Lighthouse Boys.  Most importantly, the name of the Lord Jesus Christ was lifted up as a witness to central California Ventriloquist Brenda Heckman and her partner, Rusty, hosted the event, bringing plenty of smiles and laughter throughout the evening.  The auditorium was filled to near capacity. Gospel music fans came from as far north as Sacramento and as far south as Los Angeles.  The audience was blessed by a powerful performance from Diane Eason, one of California’s favorite female vocalists.
The Bransons, one of the west coast’s most exciting groups gave the crowd a little taste of old fashioned campmeeting!  The Lighthouse Boys brought a little humor and some of the best four-part harmony this side of Heaven!  Since making his first appearance in California in 1996, John Lanier has become a favorite among gospel music fans throughout the west coast. He was the featured artist at the First Annual Southern Gospel Jubilee! A special treat indeed- The Guiding Lights Children’s Choir was an instant hit.  California’s “First Family” of gospel music- The Herb Henry Family.   The Grand Finale- All the artists gathered on stage for a ‘Gaither Homecoming Style’ performance. The audience lifted their voices in song with the artists for a most memorable worship experience.

BLESSED MIXINGS

At the Lighthouse Boys’ booth (April 15th 2000), we enjoyed talking with Mark and Bill Underwood who were quick to point out  they’d been using a Mackie 1604 for a couple of years. According to Mark, “It’s been working real good for us.“ Bill added, “It’s a fantastic board… a real nice board”, Mark went on, “It’s compact… fits in the stage box really good. We haven’t had any trouble with it at all. None. No problems at all. Awesome, awesome board!”

Asked what their schedule is like, Mark said, “Just about every weekend. Year before last, we did about 4 tours in one year. So we use (the 1604) quite often. We’ve been doing the Great Western Quartet Convention ever since it started in Fresno, since 1997. We’ve done Suwannee River Jubilee, back in Florida, with the Florida Boys and the Dixie Echoes, and we’ve done a lot of stuff up and down California with the other groups, some of the bigger groups–Kingsmen, the Hoppers–different groups like that. And we insist on setting up our own system, because not everyone has a Mackie board.
